When the Space Race got underway in the 1950’s, the public began to snag on the popularity of spacecraft, rockets, and the new jet planes.
Businesses began to adopt these budding symbols of aerospace and cosmic exploration into their companies’ personal branding, naming, and advertising. Very soon, the old highways such as Route 66 winding through the countryside began to have Space Age themed attractions, eateries, motels, and other novelties dot the roadsides. The fervor for this by business owner and customers was comparable to the modern iPhone and social media craze . . . and if you think that’s off, think about how you’re reading this! 🙂 To commemorate the vintage enthusiasm for the budding Space Age and the marketing business it built, a sample photo montage is shown of businesses, old/new and running/closed, that celebrate this unique part of American history and pop-culture.
If you love old Route-66 themed road signs for motels and gas stations, restaurants and other novelty tourist traps, you will love this series.
