In Galileo’s Shadow: Four Planets In A Row! – September 2018

Good day,

Welcome to another article of In Galileo’s Shadow.  Today’s subject involves a big event going on in September of 2018 . . . namely the sight of 4 of our Solar System planets!

You can see them with your naked eye towards mid-evening.  Around 8:00 PM MST, in the southern sky, you can see the sight of Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus from Southeast to Southwest!

They look like very bright stars. Using the Sky Guide app, you can easily locate them (see above).

Then, if you have as much as a 6-inch telescope ?, you can even see the ring around Saturn!

With Jupiter, you can barely see the gas cloud streaks, and can faintly see four of the moons such as Ganymede, Io, Callisto, and Europa (looking like tiny stars).

You would never know these were here unless you’re already a faithful astronomer (or told by NASA or myself :).  On clear nights, make sure you have the chance to get outside and see them for yourselves!

For the Great Galactic Space Gimmick, I’m Gimmick Commander Ben Faltinowski! 🙂
