Gimmick Command Periodically – NASA’s Birthday, Biodome Training, and Eclipse Health Alerts

Good evening, and welcome to a new edition of Gimmick Command Periodically, to give you the latest updates on various Space related happenings around the globe.

NASA officially turned 59 years old last week. This US Space administration was formed officially to boost the US and mankind’s exploration and presence in Space, and unofficially to keep the balance of nuclear might on par or better than the former Soviet Union.

Future plans for NASA include the launch of the Orion Spacecraft, continued service to the International Space Station, and preparations for a Mid-term, future manned Mars mission.

As for future Mars training, a team of six scientists have been hard at work preparing for this near the slopes of Mauna Loa in Hawaii.

During the simulation mission, the crew will be confined to a 36-foot-wide dome, except when they don bulky mock spacesuits for excursions across Mauna Loa’s terrain that’s similar to Mars.

Finally, the Eclipse of 2017 is coming to the USA on August 21st. Β Health advisories have been issued for people in or near the areas of totality, namely to use special filters when viewing it to avoid eye-retinal damage from the brightness (see picture above for details). Β They also mention bringing plenty of water to drink and staying cool if caught in large traffic jams headed towards the area of totality.

For The Great Galactic Space Gimmick, I’m Gimmick Commander Ben Faltinowski! πŸ™‚
