This is Gimmick Commander Ben Faltinowski with a new column called “School Days of Gimmick”.
As my three children grow older and gain more knowledge in the art of writing, I thought it was only fair to start enlisting them as contributors to The Great Galactic Space Gimmick as well.
In here, The Great Galactic Space Gimmick debut, my daughter, designation “Agent Equellus” (as some “visiting scientists ?” call her)”, has written a school essay that I thought was great and wanted to share with all of the faithful Gimmick readers! Without further ado, here is her essay titled, “Scientists and Inventors”! ???
Scientists & Inventors
– by Agent Equellus
Survival. It is survival that has driven us to creation. Throughout history, humanity has believed in survival of the fittest. Those who arenβt always athletically gifted rely on creation for survival. These are people that dared to dream and dared to create.
Nowadays, people continue to use many of the inventions from the days of the Renaissance. Some of the greatest inventors and scientists include Galileo the father of modern science, Gutenberg, whose style continues to improve and Copernicus, the father of modern astronomy. These amazing and renowned inventors and scientists changed the course of human science.
Galileo was renowned as the father of modern science. He was born February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. In 1581, he attended the University of Pisa, where he conducted many of his experiments. Unfortunately, he had to leave the university in 1585 without a degree. Despite this, Galileo continued to pursue science. In 1586 he wrote his first scientific work. From 1589-1610, he was elected chair of mathematics because of his bold ideas. Throughout his lifetime, Galileo made many discoveries that heavily impacted the scientific communityβs point of view. Galileo was the first person to theorize that the planets revolved around the sun, and not the other way around. Sadly, Galileo died January 2, 1642 in Arceri. Because of his discoveries, Galileo created the roots for all science.
While on the subject of creation, another great inventor, Gutenberg, also created a removable type printing style. Gutenberg was born in the year 1395 in Mainz, Germany. His early life was a mystery. Unfortunately, at an early age, he and his family were exiled to France. Despite this, Gutenberg continued to learn. He started working on a new printing style in 1436. In 1488, he continued to pursue experimenting with printing. Years later, Gutenberg moved back to Mainz. He died in Mainz, Germany on February 3, 1448. His invention improved over the years, as people started to experiment with it.
Copernicus was known over the years as βThe Father of Modern Scienceβ. Copernicus was born on May 14, 1473 in Torun, Poland. Copernicus was always given the best education. From 1491-1494 he studied liberal arts and science. He studied at the University of Krokow. Copernicus worked hard for many years, trying to earn a degree. Finally, in May of 1503, he received his doctorate. Copernicus worked hard and spent the rest of his life analyzing the stars and space. He died on May 21, in the year 1543. People could learn so much from Copernicusβs life, such as finishing what you start.
Every one of these scientists and inventors never gave up. They dedicated their lives to learning, discovering, and creating. Let this be a lesson. Galileo tenaciously stood with his ideas, despite what other people thought of him. Gutenberg continued to study and analyze even though he had to leave his country. Copernicus spent all 70 years of his life pursuing his love of science. Even though some people thought these amazing people were insane, or different, they never gave up on their dreams or ideas. Jim Carrey once said, βIf you give up on your dreams, whatβs left?β These people dared to dream and because they did, the world has become a better, more creative place.
